Allied Medical Professions

Health Sciences at Ohio State Lima

What is Health Sciences with an emphasis in Health Management?

Health Sciences is the newest program offered by the School of Allied Medical Professions at The Ohio State University College of Medicine.  Because health care is rapidly changing, there is a need for broadly educated graduates with extensive knowledge of health care and service-related topics.

The Health Management area of concentration focuses on the business aspects of health care and health-related services.  Graduates will not only have a strong business background, they will have a strong health and science background to more effectively communicate with medical professionals.  Students will develop knowledge of management principles, reimbursement, finance, information systems, interpretation of data, ethical and legal considerations, and skills for managing people and systems.

At The Ohio State University at Lima, students can complete the Health Sciences Program with an emphasis in Health Management and earn a Bachelor of Science in Allied Health Professions. An optional internship also gives students the opportunity to gain experience, further self development and apply learning toward achievement of practical goals and skills under the supervision of a preceptor and internship coordinator.

Career Opportunities

The Health Sciences Program with an emphasis in Health Management prepares graduates for many career opportunities, beginning in a variety of entry-level positions in all sectors of the health care industry.  These include managed care organizations, hospitals, clinics, sub-acute and ambulatory care facilities, physician group practices, non-profit agencies, and insurance or commercial companies.

Faculty and Staff

The Health Sciences Program draws upon the resources of the faculty and staff of the School of Allied Medical Professions in Columbus, as well as those here at Ohio State Lima.  Business minor classes are taught by faculty from the Fisher College of Business via distance learning technologies.
