222 Classical Mythology U 5

 

A study of the major myths of Greece and Rome, such as Jason and the Argonauts, the Trojan War, and the Labors of Hercules.  Issues of the nature of mythology, the transmission of the texts, and the archaeological material will also be examined.  Also considered will be the significance of these myths in contemporary Western culture.

 

Not open to students with credit for H122. GEC arts and hums lit course. 
 

224 Classical Civilization: Greece U 5

 

A study of the history and culture of Greece, from its beginnings around 2000 B. C. until the advent of the Romans.  The course will focus on political history, literature, art, and culture, with emphasis on the achievements of the Greeks that are still relevant today, such as drama and philosophy.

 

Not open to students with credit for H124. GEC arts and hums cultures and ideas course. 
 

225 Classical Civilization: Rome U 5

 

A study of the history and culture of Rome, from the founding of the city by Romulus and Remus to the advent of Christianity.  Emphasis will be on the political and social history, Rome's relations with the Greek world, the spread of empire, and the change from the ancient to the medieval world.
