Current/Future Research

I am actively involved in seven projects: (1) a revised conodont-, graptolite-, chitinozoa-, and event-based Gorstian-Lochkovian (Silurian-earliest Devonian) chronostratigraphy (with James Barrick); (2) δ ¹³C chemostratigraphy of Ordovician/Silurian boundary strata of the North American Midcontinent (with Stig Bergström); (3) conodont biostratigraphy, oceanic episodes, and δ ¹³C chemostratigraphy of Silurian/Devonian boundary strata in New York; (4) Ireviken Event and Ireviken δ ¹³C excursion (with Brad Cramer and many others); (5) oceanic episodes, ¹³C chemostratigraphy, and updated Homerian, Gorstian, and Ludfordian (Silurian) conodont biostratigraphy of the North American Midcontinent Basins and Arches region of southern Laurentia (Master’s advisee Rob Swift is working on a research project that is a part of this research);  and (6) Silurian high-resolution stratigraphy on the Cincinnati Arch (with Brad Cramer, Pat McLaughlin, and Carlton Brett); and (7) Lower Silurian of Ohio and Kentucky. I received Lima campus research grants to help out with the projects 2-7.  I submitted a joint proposal concerning the fifth-listed project with a colleague at Texas Tech University (James Barrick) to the National Science Foundation for its January 2005 deadline, which was funded for three years (for $286,000) beginning August 15, 2005 (and extended for a fourth and fifth year, that ended on July 31, 2010).   My plans for the future include completing all of the studies briefly summarized above (particularly the NSF-supported research), as well as continuing studies of Silurian conodonts and stratigraphy.
