The Bachelor of Science degree in
elementary education emphasizes coursework from a wide
variety of disciplines. Students choose a specialty in
an area of concentration and also develop basic knowledge
of the teaching and learning process. This combination
of specific skills and general knowledge contributes
to the education graduate's versatility and marketability.
This program provides a strong background of courses
from a variety of disciplines for entry into careers
in government, the arts, higher education, or business
and industry.
Students seeking licensure in Middle Childhood Education
(grade four through grade nine) choose two of the following
four areas of concentration: math, science, social
studies, and language arts. Courses are planned during
the undergraduate program to meet the requirements
of these areas of concentration.
Students seeking licensure in Early Childhood Education
(pre-kindergarten through grade three) specialize in
early childhood foundations and one other area of concentration
from the following: math, science, social studies,
and language arts.
The Bachelor of Science in elementary education degree
may lead to admission to the Master of Education (MEd)
program at The Ohio State at Lima. The MEd is a five-quarter
sequence of graduate courses fulfilling the requirements
for licensure to teach Early Childhood (pre-kindergarten
through grade three) or Middle Childhood education
(grade four through grade nine).
