College of Education and Human Ecology:
 Undergraduate programs in Education
Bachelor of Science in Education (BSED): Early Childhood Education

Bachelor of Science in Education (BSED): Middle Childhood Education

The Ohio State University at Lima offers BSED programs leading to teacher licensure in Early and Middle Childhood education for qualifying students:
  • The Early Childhood education leads to licensure in grades pre-school through grade 3 in the state of Ohio.
  • The Middle Childhood program leads to licensure in grades 4 through 9 in two areas of concentration in the state of Ohio. Students enrolling in this program choose two content areas from science, social studies, mathematics, and language arts.
Students enrolled in these programs benefit from small class sizes with a significant level of interaction between students and OSU faculty and field supervisors. Qualifying students are placed in area school districts for field participation courses at every level of the program, culminating with a full year placement leading to the student teaching internship in the final semester of the program.

Admission to both programs is highly competitive. Typically, students apply to the Education major after their second year of coursework. The state required minimum GPA for admission is 2.75. Interested students must meet with the education academic advisor regularly to ensure they are meeting the requirements for admission to the major.
