What is Family Financial Services?

couple Family Financial Services focuses on helping families and individuals reach financial goals through the effective management of financial resources. The program is registered with the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education.

Specific topics of study include general financial planning, use of insurance, credit and savings, investments, and retirement and estate planning. Skills developed by the study of Family Financial Services include:

Analytical Skills the ability to make decisions and applies the problem solving process to manage financial resources and collect and analyze data.

Computer Skills the ability to use word processing, spreadsheets, and data base management software to solve common problems. Effective use of Internet is also stressed.

Communication the ability to clearly express ideas both verbally and in writing.

Job knowledge an understanding of products, services, policies, and procedures in the financial services industry.

Technical knowledge education in general financial planning; use of insurance, credit, savings and investment instruments; retirement and estate planning; understanding of family/consumer economic concepts including decision making, consumer diversity, consumer problems, and solutions to consumer problems.
