Why Become an “Honors Student"
The best reason for
choosing to participate in the Honors Program at OSU Lima is that you
will get a better education.
Additionally, down the road you may want to continue your education and
enroll in a graduate school or a professional school, to study law,
medicine, dentistry, or veterinary medicine. Nearly all of the
applicants to advanced degree programs will have had good grades; so, a
high GPA may not be enough to get you selected. Selection committees are
looking for students that have demonstrated more than their ability to
get good grades. Participation in an Honors Program is one way that a
student can distinguish his/herself.
Entering freshmen with an ACT composite score of 29 or above and a ranking in the top 10% of their high school class are automatically admitted to the Honors Program at Ohio State Lima. Entering freshmen with an ACT composite score of 25-28 are invited to be “Honors Candidates”. These students can earn admission to the honors Program by demonstrating high quality academic performance.
Automatically admitted students and honors candidates will have to demonstrate interest in the Honors Program by taking Honors Courses and must maintain a minimum 3.3 grade point average their freshman year. The grade point requirement for students who have completed 90 or more quarter hours is 3.4 or better.
