As you consider becoming an OSU – Lima Buckeye. If you were a high school band or orchestra member, or have a skill on a band instrument I would encourage you to join the University Band. We realize that your time is valuable and that many of you will be commuting to the campus. Below, you will find a description of the class, time commitment and possible performance venues.

Goals and Purpose:

Participation in this class should provide an educational outlet for Ohio State Lima and Rhodes State campus students that play an instrument(s) and would like to continue playing that instrument(s) at the collegian level. The opportunity to hone their playing skills and make music will be the primary goal of this class and organization. A secondary goal would be to provide music for campus activates to include athletic events and other college functions.

Music To Be Presented:

A major part of this class will be to perform a variety of music that not only represents styles from the past, but also current trends in music. This could include but not be limited to: Marches, Pep Songs, Concert Selections, and Show Tunes and of course: Across the Field, Buckeye Battle Cry, Carmen Ohio and Hang On Sloopy.

Requirements, Evaluation and Credit:

Students will be expected to attend the weekly class/rehearsal scheduled for Monday’s from12: 35 - 1:25 P.M. in Room 160 of Reed Hall. (This rehearsal time can be adjusted to fit the Rhodes State student’s lunch schedule). In addition attendance at scheduled performances will be a part of the class participation. Performances will only be scheduled according to student availability. Realizing that the Lima Campus has several transient students, I will work with individual participants if conflicts arise. For your participation you will receive one credit hour.

Scheduled performances will vary for Quarter to Quarter:

These could include:
Playing for the Baron’s Men and Women’s athletic events.
On campus activities like President Gee’s visits.
Quarterly Music Department Concert on Thursday evening the last week of classes.
