Public Star Parties
What are they?
Public star parties are community activities
that are open to the public. They are centered on OSU-Lima's astronomical
resources such as the newly built Student Observatory and the portable
planetarium. Typically they may include:
presentations inside the planetarium (sky projector) to learn about constellations, the solar system, etc.
Naked-eye sky observations of constellations, stars (color, brightness, distance, etc)
Telescopic viewing using:
the Meade 16" reflecting telescope (Meade 16" LX200 GPS)
the Meade 10" reflecting telescopes (Meade 10" RCX-400 and Meade 10" LXD-55)
other telescopes setup by local community astronomers
Slide show presentations describing many beautiful and fascinating celestial objects.
Refreshments will generally be served
All star parties are dependent on good weather. Rain, snow, or complete cloud cover will cause a star party to be cancelled.
How to request one?
Star Parties can be requested by non-profit
and not-for-profit community organizations such as schools, youth groups, etc.
