Prerequisite
The prerequisite
for Spanish 103.01 is Spanish 102.01 or Spanish 102.66 earned
through regular course enrollment, MultiCAT Placement Test, or
Transfer Credit.

Course Objectives
Spanish 103.01 is
the third course of a four course sequence (101.01,
102.01, 103.01,
104 (or 111) which leads to the fulfillment of the foreign language
requirement. Spanish is the primary language of instruction.
The general goal of the course is to develop basic language skills.
During this course students will...
-
Continue
to increase vocabulary foundation in order to increase language
skills. New vocabulary includes but is not limited to: the human
body, health and well being, foods, social events and religious
celebrations.

Continue use of
acquired grammatical structures.
-
Develop working
knowledge of grammar structures associated with, but not limited to:
describing health symptoms; giving orders using regular and
irregular formal and informal commands, giving advice sing formal
commands; using the present subjunctive to express cause and effect
relationships, value judgements and emotional reactions, and unknown
/unexperienced entities and events; using the imperfect subjunctive
of both regular and irregular verbs to express cause and effect
relationships, value judgements and emotional reactions, and
unknown/ unexperienced entities and events; using the future tense
to make plans; using the conditional to discuss hypothetical
situations, or what would or could happen.

Listen to
complex passages, or conversations, and answer questions about the
content.

Read complex
authentic texts and answer questions about the content.

Write
compositions using acquired vocabulary and grammatical structures.

Engage in, and
sustain face to face conversation with others about a variety of
topics.

Continue to use
the Internet to acquire information about the Spanish speaking

Attendance
and Class Participation
Regular attendance and participation in class activities are
essential to be a successful language learner. In order for students
to progress in understanding and speaking Spanish, they must hear
and speak it on a daily basis. Therefore, students must prepare
carefully for class by completing all assignments in advance and be
ready to participate in class. Students will be graded on
individual, pair, and group activities. Students must not miss
more than two classes. For each unexcused absence beyond the
two absences mentioned above, 0.5 point will be deducted from the
final course grade.
