 Introduction to Latin American Cultures and Literatures

 

Get to know our American neighbors and learn about a variety of issues that Latin America presently faces.  Students will read novels and short stories as well as view films about dictatorship, terror, missing people, and resistance movements.  The course will also examine ethnic diversity, indigenous cultures, conflicts between indigenous and Hispanic people, and neo-colonialism manifested, for example, in sweat shops established in Latin America by multinational companies.  The course will also introduce students to Hispanics living in the U.S., including illegal immigrants and the Chicano community.

Taught in English. GEC Arts and Humanities cultures and ideas.
