The Department of English offers a varied and comprehensive curriculum in literature, rhetoric, composition, folklore, language study, film, critical theory, and creative writing. Analysis of literature and language helps develop a capacity for logical thought, an awareness of the complexity of value judgments, and an understanding of the imaginative possibilities of the mind itself. In exposing students to some of the greatest minds and imaginations our civilization has produced, the study of literature engages and deepens all our faculties-mental, emotional, moral, and aesthetic.
In addition to being able to complete all four years of your bachelor's degree on the Lima campus, students also have the option of completing an English minor or a film minor. Both options are incredibly popular on campus!
The study of literature, language and composition expands the individual's emotional and creative capacities, sharpens the ability to articulate thoughts and feelings, strengthens the ability to make value judgments and to engage with society and time different from one's own.
