4/18/11
Lima, OH – Barons
baseball was only able to get in 2 games this past week, going 1 and 1, as
Mother Nature wiped out a big doubleheader with Miami University – Middletown on
Saturday.
On Tuesday, 4/12/11 the Barons topped the
Mavericks of OSU Mansfield 16 to 11. Sophomore Damon Koverman picked up the win
to earn his first collegiate win. Offensively, the Barons were led by freshman
David Spearman and Sophomore Dustin Craig, both with 2 doubles.
In the game, the Barons jumped out to an early
lead with 3 runs in the first inning, and then methodically continued to add
runs in all 8 of their at bats. “As a coach, you’re always looking for a
consistent effort from your team. We’re always preaching, to get at it every
inning, and well, that’s exactly what we did today. Hopefully we can learn from
this effort and build on it!” Said Head Baseball Coach Abe
Ambroza.
On Thursday, 4/14/11 the Barons were on the road
for the 2nd trip in a week to face ORCC rival Miami Hamilton. After
falling to the Harriers on April 7th 5 to 0, the Barons were hoping
their hot bats would carry some momentum to Hamilton. However, despite several
run scoring opportunities, the Barons were unable once again to score vs Harrier pitching, falling again by a score of 5 to 0.
Michael Allen was the losing pitcher for the Barons, dropping his record to 1
& 1.
“We had some opportunities early on when the score
was tight, and just couldn’t capitalize. If we get the bunt down, stay alert on
the bases with picks we know are coming, who knows what happens. It’s
frustrating, but I know the guys are getting close and I’m hoping they are
starting to realize the commitment that it takes to beat the top teams.” Added Ambroza.
The Barons will be on the road this week as they
will travel to Lancaster on Tuesday for a 9 inning contest with Ohio University
Lancaster, Thursday’s location is still unknown at this time as the Barons may
possibly need to travel to Middletown for a doubleheader as part of a makeup of
the April 16th doubleheader that was postponed. The Barons will
definitely be home on Saturday, April 23rd however as they’ll host
Miami Hamilton for a doubleheader starting at 1pm.
Come out and support your Barons. Admission is
always free to all home games!
