Lima, OH – Barons baseball is nearing the end of their rainy 2011 season with a lot of wins. The Barons, have now won 5 in a row and 7 of their last 8 to raise their record to 13 & 12! “Pitching and defense, pitching and defense, pitching and defense. That has been the biggest improvement we have made as a team the past couple weeks. If we can stay consistent with quality outings on the mound and smart, solid defense, we have a very good chance at making a lot of noise in the upcoming tournament!” Said Head Coach Abe Ambroza
The Barons have collected wins over Miami Middletown, OU Chillicothe, and Southern State recently to finally climb above .500 and claim the 2nd most wins in the ORCC at this time. While the Barons only have 1 conference game remaining, several schools have 3 or more games still to play so the seeding for the ORC Tournament is still very much up in the air, but the Barons are pretty likely to claim either the #2 or #3 seed. If they were to get the #2 seed, it would be the 2nd consecutive year they’ve done so, and after a semifinal loss in 2010, the Barons are surely hoping for better luck from that spot if that’s what they receive.
This week was supposed to only have 1 non conference game to prepare the Barons for tournament play, but due to such a wet spring the 2011 ORC Tournament has actually been moved back 1 week and will likely see some necessary reformatting. Because of that, the Barons will still be traveling to Rochester this week for a non conference rematch with the Warriors of Rochester College as well as a home rain makeup of the final ORCC contest with Miami Middletown.
“Right now it’s looking like the tournament won’t start until sometime next week. We’re hopeful that we might now get a chance to host an early game as a high seed. However, we’ll play with whatever deck we’re given. With those guys down south taking the regular season crown this year, we’re hungry for another shot and are now totally focused on making a run in the 2011 ORC Tournament!” Said Coach Ambroza
