Lima, OH – On Monday evening the Barons did their best to rally from as much as 15 points down, at one time scoring 11 points unanswered, but couldn’t get over that final hump, losing to OSU Newark 100 to 96.
The theme of the day was free throws. Unfortunately for the Barons, that was a theme that didn’t work in their favor. Finishing the game shooting at just over 70% from the line, the Barons allowed too many free points to get away from them, while the Titans of OSU Newark took advantage of their opportunities, especially late when #40, Joe Swartz knocked down six straight attempts with under two minutes left in the game to help keep the streaking Barons at bay. Swartz was also deadly from three point range knocking down eight of them on the evening.
Despite Swartz’s effort, the Barons made a brilliant run at the Titans to make the contest exciting down the stretch. After trailing 50 to 35 at the half, the Barons fought back to scores of 53 to 46 with 15:00 left in the game, and 94 to 92 with 0:30 left in the game. Unfortunately they couldn’t get that needed stop late in the game and OSU Newark held on to win the game, 100 to 96.
Key contributors for the Barons were Brent Cook (Spencerville) with 28 points and Jordan Swift (Shawnee) with 21 points.
Next up for the Barons is ORCC foe Akron Wayne on Wednesday, Dec. 14th in Orrville, OH. Tip off is set for 6pm for the men and 4pm for the women.
The Barons next home contest is set for Saturday, December 15th against another ORCC foe in OU Chillicothe. Tips are set for 1pm for the women and 3pm for the men.
