Barons end ORCC schedule with win over OUL

Lancaster, OH – Sunday the Barons closed out the regular season ORCC schedule with a win on the road over OU Lancaster 7 to 2. Pitching the complete game and getting the win was Paul Geuy (Benjamin Logan). Geuy raised his record to 3 & 2 by allowing only 2 runs, 1 earned on 4 hits, 0 walks, 1 hit batter, and 7 strikeouts. Leading the way offensively for the Barons was Matt Beggin (Lima Senior), going 2 for 5 with a double, single, and two runs scored. Other key contributors were Jason Allen (Columbus Grove) going 2 for 4, Geuy going 2 for 4, and Tyler Deam (Triad) going 1 for 2 with a walk and a sac bunt.

In the game, the Barons fell behind early 1 – 0, and were unable to answer for several innings. Finally, in the fourth Barons hitters were able to break through as Tyler Deam led off the inning with a walk and later scored on a Jason Allen Single. Allen would score a few hitters later as Brad Comstock (Hardin Northern) hit a hard ground ball that OU Lancaster’s third baseman was unable to field cleanly. The Barons would come back in the fifth and add two more runs, then again score two in the 6th and one in the 7th. Rally scoring has become a trend for the Barons as it seems once they score a run it becomes contagious and they continue to tack on more and more throughout the entire game.

The win raises the Barons ORCC record to 8 & 4 and has the Barons looking at a likely four seed in the upcoming ORCC tournament of nine teams starting Friday, May 9th. The Barons overall record is now at 10 & 9.

The Barons will return home for their final game of the regular season versus OSU Mansfield on Tuesday, May 6th at 4pm on the Lima Campus. Preceding the game on May 6th at 2:00 will be a game pitting the OSU Lima/Rhodes State students versus OSU Lima/Rhodes State faculty and staff in a game played by the original rules of baseball.

Come out and support the Barons. Admission is free to all!
