Mansfield, OH – The Barons start 2009 by claiming their first victory of the season topping OSU Mansfield 73 to 63. The Barons were led in scoring by Dustin Williams (Upper Scioto Valley), as he netted 17.
Despite getting off to a slow start, the Barons were able to come back strong early, going in to the half with a 41 to 33 lead. Riley Huffer (Waynesfield) was a key contributor for the Barons in the first half as he scored all nine of his points in the first half while Mark Renner (Upper Scioto Valley) also scored all of his points for the game in the first half with eight.
In the 2nd half the Barons held off charges by OSU Mansfield, carried by more consistent play by Dustin Williams, as well as hot streaks by Charlie Patterson (Allen East) who scored eight of his ten in the 2nd half and Ryan Schroeder (Ft. Jennings) who scored all of his eight points in the 2nd half.
Coach Koverman’s only quote after the game was “It’s a new year now, we plan to be a new team the rest of the way.”
