Experiential Learning involves attaining professional experience through a variety of means. Formalized methods may include internships, fieldwork, practicum, clinical experiences and service-learning. Informal approaches such as job shadowing, volunteerism, campus leadership, studying abroad and other co-curricular opportunities.
Employers are looking for new employees that have knowledge, shills and experience related to their field, as well as "soft skills" all organizations seek. Participating in one or more experiences while in college will help sudents develop soft skills such as communication, leadership, teamwork and problem solving.
The Ohio State University at Lima recognizes the importance of assisting students and employers make experiential learning happen for both the educational advancement of students and the growth of host employers' businesses and organizations.
