Registration is open for the Autumn 2013 session. It will be held in Lancaster, Ohio.

  • The program includes interactive learning utilizing actual medical records and court cases.
  • Detailed instruction of the litigation process from initial contact with the client through the trial phase will be presented, as well as the role of the Legal Nurse Consultant in each phase.
  • Program includes the expanded role of the Legal Nurse Consultant in the fields of Risk Management, Life Care Planning, Case Management, Workers' Compensation, and Alternative Dispute Resolution.
  • In depth review of the various legal practice areas will be presented including professional negligence, personal injury, product liability, workers' compensation, toxic torts, expert witness and forensic nursing.
  • *In addition, contact hours are provided for registered nurses upon successful completion of the following sessions: Intro to LNC and Legal Theory; Medical Record Review/Risk Management & Interacting with Defense Counsel; and Medical Research/Expert Location.
    • *LACCEN at The Ohio State University at Lima (OH-008/1-1-15) is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Ohio Nurses Association (OBN-001-91), an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

    • Legal Procedure, Process, Discovery, Trial and Deposition Skills and ADR
    • Written Reports & Workshops (I & II)
    • Medical Research: Expert Location (includes Mock Trial coordination, Forensic Cases, ERISA, HMO, Complex Litigation, Personal Injury, Product Liability, Toxic Tort, EMTLA)
    • Life Care Planning, MSA, Case Management (WC), IME, Marketing, Business Set-Up
    • Medical Record Review (A-Z case evaluation)/Risk Management & Interacting with Defense Counsel

    About the Instructors

    Wanda J. Burns, R. N. has been a Legal Nurse Consultant for over 20 years and currently is employed by a plaintiff firm in Warren, Ohio. She assists with wrongful death and personal injury and medical malpractice cases. Wanda also conducts mock trials throughout Ohio for legal professionals. She is one of the founders and a Past President of the Northeast Ohio Chapter of the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants.

    Linda Gartman, RN,LNC-C is President of Gartman Health and Rehabilitation, Inc. Her experience includes general consulting for plaintiff and defense law firms. She provides expertise in cases involving life care planning, rehabilitation and case management for catastrophic injury cases and workers 'compensation. She also conducts mock trials throughout Ohio. Linda is a Past President and founding member of the Northeast Ohio Chapter of the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants.
