Seminar focuses on effects and management of Traumatic Brain Injury

As Congress and several major league sports have begun to take a closer look at the effect and proper treatment of concussions, Traumatic Brain Injury has become a hot topic for coaches, players, school administrators and medical professionals. March is also Brain Injury Awareness Month.

The Ohio State University at Lima will present the seminar “Traumatic Brain Injury” as part of the Programs for Professionals series from 1:00-4:15 p.m., Tues., March 23, 2010, in Science 100.

The first part of the seminar is an overview of TBI, a condition which occurs when a sudden trauma causes damage to the brain. During the second part of the program, Dr. Kelsey Logan will focus on concussion and post concussion syndrome evaluation and management. Logan is the medical director at the Sports Concussion Center at The Ohio State University Sports Medicine Center and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Jennie Horner, CSN – Coordinator – Area 5, Brain Injury Association of Ohio, will present the overview.

Concussion resource packets will be available for participants.

The cost to attend “Traumatic Brain Injury” is $30 with professional contact hours and CEU’s provided. Programs for Professionals is an ongoing series of continuing education seminars for health professionals and educators. Call the Office of Continuing Education at (419) 995-8863 for more information or to register.
