Media Alert: Ohio State Lima makes DREAM of university education come true

Dare to Reach Excellence, Achievement and Meaning high school students finish program May 1

High school seniors who have been participating in the Ohio State University at Lima’s Dare to Reach Excellence, Achievement and Meaning, or DREAM, Program, will graduate at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 1, 2007, in the Public Service Board Room. Successful participants who have decided to come to Ohio State Lima will receive scholarships for $650 per quarter.

“The DREAM Program is a university preparation program designed by Ohio State to ensure that all students capable of achieving an university education have the opportunity to do so,” said Temple Patton, Coordinator of Minority Recruitment. “We are so pleased to have at least 10 students from the Lima City Schools and Shawnee Schools complete the program this year.”

Students were nominated to participate in the DREAM program by their guidance counselors. As part of the program, students and their parents were offered one-on-one support and counseling on such topics as the application process, financial aid and scholarships. To successfully complete the program, each student had to attend at least four DREAM events during the 2006-2007 academic year. They could also attend Black Achievers events and receive credit.

For more information about the DREAM Program, contact Temple Patton at (419) 995-8132.
