Ohio State Lima selected to host Ohio Chautauqua 2011
Dates, characters and theme announced
The Ohio State University at Lima is one of five sites selected to host Ohio Chautauqua in 2011. This living history event will be in Lima July 6-10, 2011, on the Ohio State Lima campus and at various locations throughout Lima and Allen County.
Ohio Chautauqua is a five-day event that combines living history, music, entertainment, education and theatre for audiences of all ages in its host communities. In 2011, it will commemorate the sesquicentennial of the Civil War.
The five historical characters selected for Ohio Chautauqua 2011 are Mary Boykin Chesnut, Maj. Martin Delaney, Abraham Lincoln, Harriet Tubman and Dr. Mary Edwards Walker. In addition to portraying their respective historical figure in a tent show each night, each scholar actor will lead workshops for various age groups at venues such as the Allen County Historical Society and Museum, the Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District, the Bradfield Center and the Lima Public Library.
Ohio Chautauqua 2011 is the culminating point of Ohio State Lima’s 50th Anniversary celebration. Ohio State Lima last hosted Ohio Chautauqua in 2001.
Ohio Chautauqua is sponsored and presented by the Ohio Humanities Council and brought to you locally by The Ohio State University at Lima. For more information, contact Roger Nimps at (419) 995-8369.
