Ohio State Lima Chamber Singers to perform at Lincoln Center
The Ohio State Lima Chamber Singers will participate in a performance of The Music of Eric Whitacre at Avery Fisher Hall in New York City’s Lincoln Center on Sun., April 10, 2011, under the direction of Mr. Whitacre. The performance will include more than 230 singers from across the country.
“This is such a great opportunity for our students to not only learn great music, but also to collaborate with other choristers from across the country and the composer himself,” said Dr. Michael Benson, Ohio State Lima music lecturer and the Chamber Singers director. “All of this promises to be musically enlightening and meaningful.”
Whitacre earned his Master of Music degree from the Julliard School, where he studied with Pulitzer Prize- and Oscar-winning composer John Corigliano. He has received composition awards from the Barlow International Composition Competition, the American Choral Directors Association and the American Composers Forum. In 2001, Whitacre became the youngest recipient ever awarded the coveted Raymond C. Brock commission by the American Choral Directors Association. As a conductor, Whitacre has appeared with hundreds of professional and educational ensembles throughout the world. A Decca recording artist, Whitacre’s music has been featured on dozens of commercial and independent recordings.
The Chamber Singers is a select group of vocalists who perform unaccompanied sacred and secular choral repertoire. This group of 15 student singers will also perform at the United Nations at 11 a.m., Fri., April 8, 2011.
