The Jungle Book comes to life on stage at Ohio State Lima
The Ohio State University at Lima’s Theatre Department presents Rudyard Kipling’s classic tale of The Jungle Book the weeks of Oct. Oct. 8 and Oct. 15 in the Martha W. Farmer Theatre for the Performing Arts. Public performances are at 2 p.m., Sun., Oct. 14, and Sun., Oct. 21, and at 7:30 p.m., Sat., Oct. 20, 2012.
In the play, adapted by Tim Kelly and directed by Margaret Anich, Mowgli is a jungle boy, lost from his family and raised by wolves. With his friends, Baloo the bear, Bagheera the panther and Kaa the python snake, Mowgli learns the laws of the jungle. His mortal enemy, Shere Khan, a man-eating tiger, wants to rule the jungle, and it’s up to Mowgli to defeat him.
The Jungle Book is Ohio State Lima’s 18th production of Theatre for Young Audiences. These annual shows are geared toward children grades K-4 and their families. Nearly 2,000 children from schools around west central Ohio will attend daytime performances Oct. 11-12 and Oct. 18-19. The show lasts approximately 45 minutes.
Half of all funds raised from the final performance on Oct. 21 will be donated to the Humane Society of Allen County. Members from the Humane Society will be on hand with several cats and dogs that day, prior to the start of the show.
Tickets are $2 for all children 10 and younger, $5 for seniors, students and children over age 10 and $6 for adults. To reserve tickets or for more information, call the Box Office at (419) 995-8382. Maps to campus are available at Lima.OSU.edu.
