Ohio State Lima dean honored for diversity leadership service
Dr. John R. Snyder, dean and director of Ohio State Lima, was honored with the Distinguished Diversity Leadership Service Award today during a meeting of Ohio State Lima’s Diversity Council. He is the first honoree to receive this award that will be given each year.
Dr. Snyder was appointed Dean and Director of Ohio State Lima and a professor of Allied Medical Professions in the College of Medicine at Ohio State in 2003. A medical technologist by background, Dr. Snyder has been an active scholar in allied health education and clinical laboratory management, publishing seven books, 34 book chapters and 75 journal articles.
Over the past two decades, Dr. Snyder has served in a variety of international activities, including a Fellow for Project HOPE in Haiti, an external evaluator for Kuwait University, a curriculum consultant to the Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia and laboratory trainer for PEPFAR in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Zambia, Ethiopia and South Africa. PEPFAR, or the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, is the U.S. government initiative to help save the lives of those suffering from HIV/AIDS around the world. This commitment is the largest by any nation to combat a single disease internationally, and PEPFAR investments also help alleviate suffering from other diseases across the global health spectrum.
Locally, he has served on the boards of the Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities and Allen County Chamber of Commerce Foundation. Dr. Snyder currently serves on the boards of the Allen Economic Development Group and St. Rita’s Health Partners.
