Ohio State Lima announces WBL Scholastic Bowl Tournament results
More than 125 high school students competed
St. Marys won both the Varsity and Junior Varsity Championship trophies at the Western Buckeye League Scholastic Bowl Tournament held Friday, March 7, 2008, at The Ohio State University at Lima.
St. Mary’s Varsity and JV team members include Jameel Brenneman, Ed Larkin, Blaise Katter, Andy Durkee, Kristi Steva, Mitch Powell, Alysia Nagel, Laura Vogel, Matt Muhlenkamp, Brian Steinbrunner, Cody Goble, Patrick Larkin, Tom Scott, Travis Hertenstein, Charleston Powell, Priya Sivagnanam, Joseph Brenneman, Jo Steva, and Grant Davis. Their coach is Chad Doll.
The Varsity runner up team was from Defiance High School. Defiance Varsity members include Alex Jones, Ellen Richman, Michael Schlatter, Clay Pixler, Daniel Lemon, and Tim Suffel. The Defiance coaches are Rae Gambler and BJ Gambler. The Junior Varsity Runner-Up Team was from Shawnee High School and included team members Ethan Briggs, Jon Jones, Ronald Magee, Emma Nimps, Brandon Sweeney, and Dustin Waldron. The Shawnee coaches are Deb File and Lindsey Fenstermaker.
The WBL Scholastic Bowl All Tournament Team was chosen by the coaches and made up of one member from each school. The 2008 All Tournament Team members are Darya Task from Bath, Travis McCoy from Celina, Alex Jones from Defiance, Ellen Sunderland from Elida, Brady Hood from Kenton, Wes Maag from Ottawa-Glandorf, Mitch Powell from St. Marys, Adam Kriegel from Shawnee, Will Burchfield from Van Wert, and Kenneth Long from Wapakoneta.
High school teams from around western Ohio went head-to-head in the round-robin scholastic bowl tournament. Varsity teams from Bath (Dan Grime), Celina (Hal Hoover), Defiance (Rae Gambler and BJ Gambler), Elida (Shelby Cluts), Kenton (Dave Rufener and Robin Hughes), Ottawa-Glandorf (Janie Font), Shawnee (Deb File and Lindsey Fenstermaker), St. Marys (Chad Doll), Van Wert (Bitsi Clark) and Wapakoneta (Adam Friemering) competed. Coaches’ names are in parenthesis. JV teams from Bath, Celina, Defiance, Elida, Kenton, Ottawa-Glandorf, Shawnee, and St. Marys and also competed.
