Ohio State Lima celebrates women’s history month with award-winning author

The Performing Arts and Lecture Series kicks off Women’s History Month with a presentation from author and producer Ethlie Ann Vare at 12:30 p.m., Wed., Feb. 25, 2009, in Science 100 on the shared campus of The Ohio State University at Lima and James A. Rhodes State College.

Co-author of Patently Female: From AZT to TV Dinners, Stories of Women Inventors and the Breakthrough Ideas, Ethlie Ann Vare presents an entertaining and eye-opening account of the hidden women behind their familiar inventions. Vare demonstrates that women have been inventing and discovering since the beginning of time, from mundane but useful products like drip coffee to transforming inventions like the cellular phone.

Vare also co-authored the award-winning Mothers of Invention: From the Bra to the Bomb, Forgotten Women and their Unforgettable Ideas and numerous biographies. A former broadcast journalist and music critic, Vare’s professional experience also includes producing episodes of such popular television shows as CSI, Silk Stalkings and Renegade.

Vare’s presentation is sponsored by the Performing Arts and Lecture Series and the Student Activities Office at Ohio State/Rhodes State and the Diversity Action Training and Experience Committee (DATE) at Rhodes State.

The event is free and open to the public.
