Professor Sutton-Ramspeck has been a faculty member at The Ohio State University at Lima since 1998. She mainly teaches British literature courses, including the survey in British literature from 1800 to the present and seminars in Romantic-era poetry, Victorian poetry, the nineteenth-century English novel, Victorian women writers, and the Brontë sisters. Dr. Beth, as her students often call her, has also taught a class in "literary housekeeping" in writings by British and American women of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Research:
Professor Sutton-Ramspeck's specialty is Victorian literature and culture, especially Victorian women writers. Several years ago, she became fascinated by Mary Augusta Ward, a novelist who was an international best seller from the 1880s to 1910 but who has since been largely forgotten. Professor Sutton-Ramspeck has edited one of Ward's most popular novels, Marcella. She has also written a book of literary criticism called Raising the Dust: The Literary Housekeeping of Mary Ward, Sarah Grand, and Charlotte Perkins Gilman, which was published by Ohio University Press in 2004. Dr. Sutton-Ramspeck has a web page devoted to Mary Ward and Marcella:
