For Immediate Release January 24, 2003 CONTACT: Pam Joseph at (419) 995-8284 or Erin McVicker at (419) 995-8332 Ohio State Lima adds Bachelor’s program in mathematics Student interest and needs plus an award-winning faculty add up to a new Bachelor’s degree program for residents of north central Ohio. Beginning in the Autumn Quarter 2003, students will be able to complete a mathematics degree at The Ohio State University at Lima. University officials expect that the majority of the students who elect to complete the program here will be interested in secondary education. “We are particularly pleased about this major because the department at Ohio State Lima has long been one of the strongest departments,” said Violet I. Meek, Dean and Director. The mathematics department is made up internationally-recognized scholars who are committed to undergraduate teaching. The department not only has two winners of the University’s Distinguished Teaching Award and two full professors, but also an expert ranked among the top 5 worldwide in the model theory of modules. Long-term plans for the mathematics program call for the expansion of the math faculty. With the addition of the mathematics program, Ohio State Lima now offers the complete coursework for 10 Bachelor degree programs. The others include Biology, Business, Education, English, Family Financial Management, Health Sciences, History, Hospitality Management, and Psychology.
