Kori AndersonKori Anderson(Shawnee) enjoys spending time with friends and family, writing poetry, painting, photography, and playing indoor soccer.  Although her major is undecided, she plans to attend The Ohio State University at Lima.  She works at F.A.S.T.  The inspiration from her poem was a combination of “a little bit of heartbreak and a little bit of boredom.”


Julie Baker Julie Baker(Lima Central Catholic) is a junior, and enjoys basketball, soccer, and 4-H.  She plans to attend The Ohio State University wit h a possible major in biology.  The inspiration for her story came from the worries her mother had about skating on the pond—fears which were likely increased by her daughter’s story!


Brittany Ball (Spencerville) is a junior.  In her spare time, Brittany loves to write and does it as often she can.  Her future plans include attending The Ohio State University at Lima to pursue a major in Psychology with a minor in Computer Programming or Multimedia.    The inspiration from her work came from reflecting on the contrast between her childhood innocence and the person she is today.

Dominique Barrows is a student at Elida.

Erika Beals is a student at Temple Christian.


Shonda BensmanShonda Bensman (Delphos St. John’s) enjoys running, playing soccer, singing, and being with family and friends. She also loves to read and play with her pet rabbit, Thumper. In the future, she hopes to attend the University of Xavier with a degree in the medical field. Her work was inspired by memories of her grandmother and her desire to express how special life truly is.


Joshua D. Boggs (Lima Senior) is a sophomore and maintains a 4.0 cumulative GPA. He is highly involved in music, and is a member of three choirs and three bands at his school. Josh has won several essay/oratorical contests over the years such as "God, Flag, and Country" and others. He plans to attend college for music performance.


Bret BowersockBrett Bowersock (Delphos St. John’s) is a freshman, and enjoys hunting, fishing, and playing baseball. His future plans include attending the Cincinnati College of Engineering to pursue a career in mechanical engineering, although he is also interested in agricultural occupations. The inspiration for his poem came from his family heritage, and his knowledge of the labor which goes into maintaining a farm.


Luke Brenneman is a student at Spencerville.


Jonathan Burgei (Delphos St. John’s) enjoys fishing, baseball, and spending time with friends.   His future plans are still to be decided, but he plans on pursuing a college degree.

Bailey Calvelage (Delphos St. John’s) is a freshman, and lives with her mom, dad, brother, and two dogs.  She enjoys music, participating in sports, and spending time with friends.  Although she has not yet chosen a concentration, she plans to obtain a college degree.  Her poem was inspired by her reflection upon her own daydreams, as well as those of other teenage girls.


Rebecca Cobb is a student at Shawnee


Bobby Cotrell (Shawnee) enjoys writing, playing flute, and playing Magic.  His future plans include attending Ohio Northern University to pursue a degree in Creative Writing.  The inspiration for “The Blood Writer” came from a story written by the main character in the book The Kite Runner.


Zack DunnZack Dunn (Allen East) enjoys computers, video games, reading, watching TV, listening to music, and hanging out with his friends.  He plans to major in Chemistry Education, with the goal of eventually becoming a high school chemistry teacher.   In his spare time, he is involved in soccer, pep band, Mustang Brass, track, French Club, and Quiz Bowl.


Anne-Marie Ellett is a student at Shawnee.


Katelyn Etgen (Delphos St. John’s) is a sophomore.  She enjoys participating in her school’s band program.


Murry Etzkorn (Delphos Jefferson) enjoys reading, wrestling, strategy video games, and spending time with friends and family. He is also involved in student government, the National Honor Society, the FFA, and volunteer work. In the future, he plans to attend The Ohio State University at Lima to pursue a degree in civil engineering. The inspiration for his short story came from his enjoyment of the genre, and his desire to give it a try himself by describing a force that threatens the planet.


Rachel Fell (Spencerville) plans to pursue a degree in nursing at Wright State University.  The inspiration for her work came from childhood experiences of spending time with her grandmother.


Angela GeesyAngela Geesy (Bath) is a sophomore.  In her spare time, she enjoys playing the piano and the french horn.  She is also active in her local Teens for Christ chapter and her church, where she is involved with the puppet ministry.  In the future, Angela hopes to obtain a degree in Early Childhood Development with the eventual goal of opening an orphanage overseas.  Her inspiration for the poem was derived from the experiences of others who have gone through a difficult period.

Ashley HoltzappleAshley Holtzapple (Spencerville) is a senior, and plans to attend Wittenberg University in the  fall of 2008, with a major in biology.  The inspiration for her poem was the experience of losing touch with a close friend.


Carrie Honigford (Delphos St. John’s) enjoys playing piano and trombone, and has played many other instruments.  She is also very interested in animals, and her future plans include obtaining a degree in biology and going on to veterinary school.  Her poem was inspired by her love for music, which gives her a way to express her emotions without ever saying a word.


Sarah Huffman Sarah Huffman (Lima Central Catholic) is a junior.  Although she is uncertain which college she will attend, she plans to go into veterinary medicine.  In her spare time, she works at Ray’s Grocery, dances at Lyn’s Academy of Dance, and plays three sports.  She recently took a short story class at Rhodes State College, and the inspiration for her story came from a chance observation of a blinking red light in her car.


Olivia Katbi (Delphos St. John's) is sixteen years old, and enjoys track and dance. The inspiration for her story came from an English assignment.


Jordan Katterheinrich (Shawnee) works at Lima Bargain Center and enjoys playing street hockey for (the?) LPD. His future plans include attending the School of Advertising Arts in Dayton to study graphic design. The inspiration for his art came from both boredom at work and an art class requirement for a picture which emphasized texture.


Avantika Krishna (Shawnee) is a freshman.  When she’s not out saving the universe, she enjoys writing short stories and hanging out with her friends.  She also loves to read, and reading late into the night with almost no light is one of her many passions.  In her spare time, Avantika also enjoys playing tennis competitively.


Andy Levers (Lima Central Catholic) loves theatre, and has interests in singing, dancing, and acting.  In his free time, he also enjoys reading, writing, and composing his own music—over the past six years, he has written both music and lyrics to over two hundred songs.  The inspiration for his art comes from both his observation of human nature and his desire to pour everything out of his soul onto paper and into music.


KaLynn LhamonKaLynn Lhamon (Bath) enjoys running, listening to music, writing poetry, and hanging out with her friends.  Her future plans include pursuing a degree in English at Bowling Green State University.  The grief surrounding the death of her great-grandfather was the inspiration for her poem, which she read at his funeral.


Deborah Martin (Temple Christian) enjoys writing, music, reading, and cooking.  Her future plans include pursuing a major in Physical Science Secondary Education at Mount Vernon Nazarene University.  The inspiration for her story came from both her own Asian heritage and her love of art, which was increased by an art class which she had recently taken.


Alyssa MartzAlyssa Martz (Delphos St. John’s) is a freshman.  In her spare time, she enjoys photography, drawing, and volleyball.  Although her future plans are not yet settled, she is interested in pursuing opportunities in art and design, and her photos have been accepted into such events as the Buckeye Creativity Show.  The inspiration for her photo was a spontaneous reaction to a Valentine’s Day flower bouquet.
 


Stephanie MetzgerStephanie Metzger (Delphos St. John’s) is a freshman, and enjoys playing softball, dancing, cheering, and spending time with friends. Her future plans include graduating in the honor society, obtaining a college degree, finding a good job, and raising a family.  Her parents are Carl and Cindy Metzger. Her poem was initially inspired by a school assignment and her love of dancing.


Kate Morgenstern (Shawnee) is a junior, and has been a member of the varsity swim team for three years. She enjoys swimming, reading, playing guitar, and art. Although her future plans are undecided, she plans to obtain a college degree. The inspiration for her self-portrait came from "Intimations of Immortality," a poem by William Wordsworth, which is also used in the work.


Leslie Newport (Lima Senior) is interested in reading, gaming, classic rock, biking, the outdoors, and—most of all—writing.  Her future plans include majoring in psychology at the University of Toledo, with a future goal of obtaining a Ph.D. or Psy.D. with concentrations in research and abnormal clinical psychology.  The inspiration for her story was derived from her interest in the era of Germanic tribes and the Irish-Celts.


Kacy QuerryKacy Querry (Lima Central Catholic) is a junior.  Her hobbies include sports, fashion, music, and reading.  She is undecided on a college, but plans to major in biology or business.


KellIE  Runyan (Lima Senior) is a student at Delphos St. John’s.


Meghan RybaMeghan Ryba ((Delphos St. John’s) is a freshman and a 4.0 student.  Her future plans including attending college and going into the dental profession.  She has been playing piano for eight years and enjoys participating in her school’s concert, marching, and pep bands as a flute and piccolo player.  Meghan also enjoys playing softball in the summer.  She is active in SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) and is an altar server at St. John’s Parish in Delphos.


Abby Scalf  is a student at Delphos St. John’s.


Kristin Schafer (Temple Christian) enjoys hiking, traveling, playing volleyball, and reading.  After high school, she plans to pursue her goal of studying veterinary medicine by majoring in biology at The Ohio State University at Lima.  Her inspiration for “The Sweetest Aroma” came from the stories of O. Henry.


Amanda Silbaugh is a student at Elida.


Meagan Skerchock (Shawnee) is interested in music, Beat writers and poets, and classic literature.  In her spare time, she enjoys reading, drawing, making short videos, and writing.  She also plays flute and bassoon in the Shawnee High School marching/symphonic band.  Meagan plans to attend The Ohio State University and major in either aeronautical engineering or film studies.


Nick Stanford (Lima Central Catholic) has lived in Lima his entire life, but will soon graduate from high school and move to Massachusetts to study at Harvard University.  His top three most time consuming activities of the school year have been soccer, science competitions, and homework.  When he’s not doing those, he can be found in his room reading or out on the roads running.  The inspiration for his story, “Like a Bird,” was probably a combination of The Sun Also Rises and late night repeats of The Twilight Zone.


Emily Stant (Delphos St. John’s) loves writing, singing, reading, and spending time with friends.  She is also involved with many different soccer teams.  Her future plans include attending college to pursue  a major in Technical Writing, with  a concentration in Creative Writing.


Lindsay Stingley (Shawnee) enjoys drawing, reading (especially books by J.K. Rowling), math, and Egyptology. She likes Digimon, and would someday like to move to the “anime capital”: Japan. The inspiration for her work was derived from a class assignment and her desire to express her own emotional experiences in the context of a creative work.


Dylan Terry (Bluffton) enjoys writing, playing guitar, and playing trumpet.  Although his future plans are uncertain, he plans to continue pursuing music, theater, and writing, and is considering obtaining a degree in English.  Dylan’s musical involvement includes participation in marching band, concert band, jazz band, and pep band.  The inspiration for “The Night War” was a combination of a Dickens novel, Dylan’s love of fiction, and a fast-approaching deadline.

Andrew WellmanAndrew Wellman (Delphos St. John’s) is a member of both the Crespi Society and the National Honor Society, and enjoys horseback riding and playing the piano.  He plays percussion in several school bands, and was the Field Commander for the marching band during the 2007 season.  He is also a mass server, lector, and Eucharistic minister at St. John’s Catholic Church in Delphos.  The inspiration for his poem, “A Priceless Crystal,” was the frozen snowflakes caused by a large snowstorm.



Morgan Wells is a student at Delphos St. John’s.


Laura Wilker (Spencerville) enjoys art, reading, and writing. Her future plans include pursuing a degree in Pharmacy at Ohio Northern University.


Kayla Wrasman (Delphos St. John’s) enjoys soccer, track, band, the FFA, and 4-H.  The rest of her time is spent working, doing schoolwork, or hanging out with friends and family.  The inspiration for her poem came from her life and her appreciation for all forms of expression.
