Hog Creek Review is an online publication designed to increase the visibility of work by emerging student authors and artists enrolled at The Ohio State University at Lima. The journal is published annually in May. Current and former students are eligible to submit.
Hog Creek Review asks for first publication rights and the right to archive accepted works on our website; all other rights revert back to the authors following publication.
Submissions of original work are accepted in the following areas: poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, the academic essay, and performed and visual genres. Every submission must include an e-mail address (acceptance and rejection notices will be sent via e-mail). Manuscripts will not be returned, so please do not submit an only copy.
Works may be submitted from February 15 until the first official day of class each Spring Quarter (immediately following spring break).
- Poetry: One to seven poems, one poem per page, preferred under 50 lines each poem.
- Fiction and creative nonfiction: 25 pages maximum, preferred double-spaced in Times New Roman font size 12.
- The Academic Essay: any essay (analytical or argumentative) completed for a class at OSU-Lima (narratives, however, should be submitted to creative nonfiction), 25 pages maximum.
- Performed and Visual Genres: Any type, including recited poetry (your own or borrowed), performed theatrical scenes or monologues on video (think of YouTube), songs, photography, etc.
For poetry, fiction, the academic essay, performed and visual genres, and creative nonfiction entries, you may submit either electronically or by paper copies, though electronic copies are preferred.
To submit electronically, please follow these guidelines: 1) attach your work as a Word or an RTF file, 2) attest that you are a current or former OSU-Lima student (using an OSU email address helps), 3) include brief biographical information in the body of the email (this is optional), and 4) send your submission to email@example.com.
Or submit paper copies to:
The Learning Center—310 Galvin Hall.
If you have questions about Performed and Visual Genres submissions, please contact James Werchan at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 135 Reed Hall. Submissions in this category should be submitted either electronically or on a CD to 310 Galvin Hall.
To submit performed and visual genres electronically, please attach the work and send it to email@example.com. Please let us know in the email that you are a current or former OSU-Lima student.
Payment will be honor and glory, but no cash prize. However, many of the published works are eligible for awards.
