Hometown: Morral, Ohio
Major: Psychology
Rank: Sophomore
Student Bio: Hello, my name is Nathan McPherson. I am a sophomore in Psychology here at The Ohio State University at Marion. I am a Marion native, and I was home-schooled from the time I entered kindergarten at age four until my senior year, after which I graduated from Ridgedale High School in 2013 at age seventeen. I began attending classes at Ohio State Marion in the fall of 2013 as a PSEO student. Even as a sixteen year old high school student, I immediately fell in love with the campus and the students that make this campus their educational environment. Because I am a Marion native and chose to attend The Ohio State University at Marion, I feel that I am a good representative of the campus. I wish to help break the stigma that has been associated with attending the branch here in Marion, and promote the fact that the education that students receive here is on par with what they would experience at main campus. I also feel I am a good representative because I follow Ohio State’s tradition of community involvement. I have been involved on campus by serving as the Vice-President of the Griffin Society, which seeks to further enrich students learning experience by offering talks about subjects that might be of interest to them. I have also served as the Secretary of the Psychology Club, where we seek to expand students understanding of psychology, promote and introduce volunteer opportunities to help students gain experience in the field. In the community I have worked with the American Red Cross Wyandot County Branch instructing swim lessons that teach children skills that allow them to enjoy the water safely and also teach basic water rescue techniques so that they will be prepared in the case of an emergency. I have also worked as a tutor on campus at the Academic Enrichment Center, where I tutor students in Math, and help match students who request help with the tutors that will work best for them; when I was a senior in high school, I was also the tutor for the boy’s track team where I was able to help students with any subject they had trouble in. I feel that I am a good candidate for Homecoming King because I am actively involved on and off campus with the task of helping students achieve success not only academically, but also showing them that, no matter what their past background might be, they can achieve whatever they set their minds to. After finishing my Bachelor’s Degree here in Marion, I hope to attend medical school and study the field of pediatrics, so that I can help our future Buckeyes develop healthily. In short, I love being a Buckeye and I thank you for your time, and I appreciate your votes for Homecoming King. Go Bucks!! Nathaniel S. McPherson
