ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF THEATRE
The Ohio State University at Lima invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Theatre, in the Design/Technical Direction area. The appointment will be made in the Department of Theatre at The Ohio State University and begin in August 2013. Candidates must have an MFA or PhD in hand at the time of appointment. Salary is competitive.
The department seeks candidates with a strong commitment to the teaching, research, and outreach missions of The Ohio State University. Candidates should demonstrate expertise in set and light design as well as construction and coordination of design execution. Teaching responsibilities will be primarily in Design/Tech at the undergraduate level and includes the supervision of student crews. The ability to teach other introductory theatre courses is desirable. The position also requires participation in area administrative duties as well as theatre scheduling and maintenance. In addition, the position will require the successful applicant to pursue a distinguished record of service and scholarly research.
The Department of Theatre, College of the Arts, The Ohio State University at Lima offers the Bachelor of Arts in Theatre as well as a Theatre minor. The Department has two tenure-line faculty, one lecturer, two staff members, and four paid student assistants. A renovation of the theatre complex (completed March 2004) retained the 440-seat proscenium auditorium, and added new scene and costume shops, dressing rooms, a green room and a rehearsal/alternative performance room. The proscenium performance space was doubled and a fly system was installed. The Department usually produces four productions per year, two for the main stage and two studio productions, and hosts a variety of other performances, including touring productions, every academic year. The metropolitan population for Lima is approximately 110,000 and supports a local symphony orchestra, ArtSpace Lima (an art gallery and visual arts outreach center), and other arts-related entities.
Ohio State Lima faculty are members of their respective departments and colleges in Columbus. Recent interactions between the Lima and Columbus theatre department colleagues have included international projects featuring Czech scenographers Jaroslav Malina and Petr Matasek
The Ohio State University at Lima is one of five campuses of The Ohio State University. Current enrollment on the Lima campus is 1,200 students and there are approximately 100 full- and part-time faculty in all academic departments. Ohio State Lima offers the first two years of the Ohio State general education curriculum and twelve programs leading to baccalaureate degrees, including Theatre. Ohio State Lima also offers Master’s degree programs in Education and Social Work.
