We are kicking off Black History Month and celebrating agricultural chemist, George Washington Carver, who invented more than 300 uses of peanut butter. Stop by the game room for a variety of peanut butter treats and pick up some interesting facts regarding George Washington Carver. Please note that as this is a peanut butter themed event. NOTE: Those with severe food allergies may wish to avoid the area.

February 13, 2015 - The 2015 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratorical Contest
Ohio State Lima hosts the 2015 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratorial Contest presented by I Am Making A Difference, Inc. Students in grades 2-12 will be on campus to present their oratorical expression based on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It is the seventh year for the event and the fifth year to be hosted by Ohio State Lima.
February 19, 2015 - So Long Solo: Music and Tea experience
This is a can’t-miss event! The musical duo So Long Solo will be performing their unique, colorful, and creative show in our very own game room- and they bring with them tons of unique tea blends for your enjoyment while you listen! Want to make this experience even better? Drop by the Student Activities Office and pre-register for GUARANTEED free cookies to go along with your tea! There will be two shows, one around 12:00 and another around 1:15.
February 25, 2015 - Homecoming- Dean Gilbert’s documentary
Come enjoy the first ever on-campus showing of the documentary Homecoming, produced by our very own Dean Charlene Gilbert. Her film traces the story of black farmers in the 20th century, including a focus on her own familys heritage. After the film, there will be a Q&A session with our Dean. This event is being held in the theater and is open to the community.

February 26, 2015 - Dr. King Tribute
Mr. Marlon Shackelford presents a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The event will attempt to answer a number of questions relative to Dr. King’s dream and his legacy. In an effort to explore the legacy of Dr. King, there will be a dramatization (including Lima City School students) and a former Latin King Gang member, Pastor Rich Carlson will also speak on the legacy of Dr. King. Shackelford has served as a motivational consultant to numerous social service agencies throughout the Midwest and southern portions of the United States for more than twenty years. He sees the world through the eyes of his diverse audience.

The National Recording Artist, Wildflower (a teen singing group) will perform and the event will close with a Circle of Love.

March 04, 2015 - Battle of the Brands
Do you swear allegiance to Kewpee or Wendy’s frosties? Do you turn your nose up at 7 Up but love Sierra Mist? Think you know the difference between store brand and name brand? Think again! Come test your tongue and vote for your favorite with free samples in the Galvin Hall Lobby starting at 11 and going until supplies run out! This exciting new event is brought to you by the Campus Activities Board.
March 13, 2015 - Family Fun Night at the YMCA
Stay-cation over Spring Break! Join Student Activities for a night at the YMCA. Available activities include open swim, open gym, volleyball, wallyball, racquetball and two family fitness classes (6:45- 7:15 p.m. and 7:30-8:00 p.m.). Healthy snacks will also be provided. March 25, 2015 - Murder Mystery Dinner
We are throwing our own murder mystery party with the theme of Murder of a Millionaire; a will reading for the rich and greedy. Guests should arrive at the party in costume. Each guest receives a detailed character description in their invitation along with some background information on the party. The mystery will unfold depending on how you participate. Keep a watchful eye for the details. RSVP by March 10 in the Student Activities Office to participate. Hurry! Spots will fill up fast!

Come to one of the five showings of The Giver. The move revolves around a young man living in a future where complacency is valued above all else. Eventually he discovers the sinister secrets that hold his fragile society together after being selected to become the Receiver of Memory in this adaptation of author Lois Lowrys Newbery Medal-winning young-adult novel.
