OSU President Drake to mark Galvin's 50th Anniversary

Those of you who have attended classes at Ohio State Lima know the strength of tradition behind Galvin Hall, the campus’ first building. When Galvin opened its doors 50 years ago, it housed everything from the classrooms to chemistry labs, the library and the bookstore. Today we have a little more elbow room with nine buildings for our bustling campus, but Galvin Hall remains the academic and emotional center.

From 2-4 p.m., Fri., Sept. 24, 2016, OSU President Michael V. Drake will visit to help us celebrate Galvin’s first 50 years. Alumni and friends are invited to join us for a brief program, tours and light refreshment. RSVP

Join us to welcome new students at Aug. 22 bonfire

Ohio State Lima is hosting the “Alumni Welcome You to Campus Bonfire” for incoming first year students from 6-8 p.m., Mon., Aug. 22, 2016. The bonfire is a chance for our superb alumni to welcome new freshmen home to campus! The evening opens at the bonfire pit next to lot F, southwest of the Science building. All alumni and their families are welcome to mingle, share stories, impart traditions and enjoy some s’mores with the brand new Buckeyes.

For more information, contact Ohio State Lima's new Coordinator of Student Engagement, Meredith Kincaid.

Exceptional alumni panel a highlight of Roads Scholar Tour stop in northwest Ohio

The Roads Scholars Tour, a two-day, traveling seminar that included OSU President Michael V. Drake and new Provost Bruce McPheron, took more than 50 faculty, staff and community partners to northwest Ohio in July to tour sites where the university has key partnerships. Participants viewed first-hand the reach and impact that engaged teaching and research collaborations have on communities and residents across the state.

One of the highlights was a visit to Kalida’s Unverferth Manufacturing, Inc., which featured a panel of alumni working at the company: Brett Unverferth, Mike Hilvers, Garrick Schroeder and Ross Unverferth. All of them started at Ohio State Lima and finished their degrees at the Columbus campus.

Engineered for Success gives first year students a strong start

Seven new Buckeyes started their Ohio State experiences a few weeks early when they attended Engineered for Success, a four-day program designed for incoming Engineering students. The week wrapped up with a demonstration of several newly-built robots.

Chemistry, Engineering, Math and Physics faculty members led daily sessions geared toward preparation for a student's anticipated engineering program. Students got hands-on experience by working on a daily project and heard from guest speakers from local engineering firms.

Other sessions included internship opportunities and techniques to improve study and time management skills.
Engineered for Success 2016 was made possible through the generous support of Dana Corporation.
