Ohio State Lima honors Pittner, Rutledge with alumni awards at ceremony
As part of Homecoming 2018 Week, Ohio State Lima celebrated the accomplishments of two alumni, one well into a distinguished career and one making a strong start.
Current and past members of the Homecoming Court joined the Alumni Awards Program on Thur., Oct. 4, in Reed Hall. The reception begian at 5:30 p.m. and the program at 6:00 p.m.
Nicholas A. Pittner is the 2018 inductee to Ohio State Lima’s Alumni Hall of Fame. Successful Alumni Hall of Fame inductees are advocates for the university and regarded as community leaders with a record of sustained professional recognition or involvement in community activity or both. Members of the Alumni Hall of Fame have successfully completed at least one term of full time study at Ohio State Lima and graduated from Ohio State 20 or more years ago.
Megan Rutledge, OD, received the 2018 Early Achievement Award. Successful Early Achievement Award nominees are advocates for the university and have demonstrated distinctive achievement in a career, civic involvement or both. The Early Achievers have successfully completed at least one term of full time study at Ohio State Lima and graduated not more than 10 years before the award.
Nicholas A. Pittner, JD

Nicholas A. Pittner has served as the trial counsel for numerous precedent-making cases involving education law at the state- and federal-court level, including the constitutionality of Ohio’s school funding laws in DeRolph v. State of Ohio. Mr. Pittner is a first-generation college student from Ottoville who began at The Ohio State University at Lima in 1960 when courses were housed at Lima Senior High School. He was named Ohioan of the Year in 2001 by the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Megan Rutledge graduated cum laude with honors in 2011 with her bachelor’s degree in biology and cum laude in 2015 with her doctorate in optometry. Dr. Rutledge completed all of her undergraduate work at Ohio State Lima and participated in a variety of activities on campus, including a strong presence in the undergraduate research area. Following a year-long residency in Ocular Disease at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Dayton, Dr. Rutledge joined Mercer In-Sight in 2016. She has taken an active role in mentoring future optometrists and fellow Ohio State students.
