Meet the honorees:

2026 EARLY ACHIEVEMENT ALUMNI AWARD

Elizabeth N. Chung BS in Biology, 2022

Elizabeth “Lizzie” Chung is an extraordinary physician-scientist whose path began at Ohio State Lima, where she completed her high school diploma and a Bachelor of Science in Biology simultaneously at just 18 years old. Driven by the memory of her father and a personal mission to treat neurodegenerative diseases, Chung overcame significant early adversity to emerge as a premier researcher in neuroimmunology. As a post-baccalaureate researcher at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, she spearheaded high-impact translational research, including publishing a first-author paper in Nature. Now an MD-PhD candidate in the medical scientist training program at the University of California, San Francisco, and a recipient of the prestigious 2026 Hertz Fellowship, Chung embodies the highest ideals of scientific rigor, clinical compassion and resilience. Throughout her rapid rise, she remains deeply committed to mentorship, STEM accessibility and patient advocacy, exemplifying the transformative power of an Ohio State Lima education.
