Second-year student Malachi Talbert has been named the Major Lawrence Miller Military Community Advocate for the Ohio State Lima campus. Talbert is a military-dependent student and will hold regular office hours and coordinate programming throughout the academic year.
“In this position, I hope that the military-connected students feel better supported on campus and have more knowledge about the opportunities that we have as military-connected students,” Talbert said. “I hope to guide people in the right direction. If I can't provide them with direct resources, I can help them get in contact with somebody who can and just answer any questions that they might have to help them on their journey.”
Talbert went through training to help him effectively answer the questions Lima’s veteran and military-dependent students may have. He has plans for events and get-togethers both on- and off-campus that center around the military-connected community.
Talbert comes from a military family. Two of his grandparents were in the military. His parents met in the Army and he hopes to pursue the Health Professions Scholarship Program through the Air Force to become an eye doctor.
