The Ohio State University at Lima

Campus Tour: Science Building

Reed Hall is the arts center of campus. The majority of the plays, choral concerts, art shows and Performing Arts and Lecture Series events are held in the Martha W. Farmer Theatre for the Performing Arts and Reed Hall 160. Reed Hall also houses the cafeteria, classrooms, faculty offices and a music laboratory.

Originally designed as a Student Activities Building, Reed Hall is named after the campus’ first dean and director, J. McLean Reed, and was dedicated in 1968.

The former Reed Hall Auditorium was renovated in 2004 and reopened as the Martha W. Farmer Theatre for the Performing Arts. The theatre includes a new fly system that makes it possible for scenery to appear and disappear vertically; Stage Two, a black box theatre for rehearsal and more intimate productions; a costume shop; a scenery shop; and dressing rooms. The renovation was made possible through the generous support of Farmer, who started the theatre program at Ohio State Lima in the 1970s. The theatre that bears her name will make it possible to put on productions that are more technically intricate and demanding than those that were possible in the past.
