Generation One

The Generation One Learning Community is designed with the first-generation college student in mind. This program helps to remove barriers for first-time, first-generation college students by fostering connectedness with their peers, staff and faculty while enhancing their understanding of university life at Ohio State Lima.

Generation One offers:

  • Skills 4 Life: Career readiness, academic preparedness and personal growth
  • Collaborative class experiences with peers in our Gen One first-year experience course
  • Strategies for knowing what and how to study
  • Access to limited, need-based, high-impact academic scholarships
  • Exclusive Ohio State Lima swag
  • Sequenced cohort courses that make sense
  • Service opportunities in conjunction with WeServe
  • Gen One student organization membership
  • Connections, mentors and enhanced professional networks

Who can participate?

You must be a first generation, first-time college student, meaning this is your first time enrolling in college and your parents do not have a degree from a four-year college or university. If you took college classes in high school, you are eligible to participate in Gen One.

How can I join Generation One at Ohio State Lima?

To join the Generation One learning community, register at summer orientation.

Most importantly Gen One will offer you a voice in a safe, inclusive space, so you can know you are not alone on your college journey. We are confident that by choosing to be involved in Gen One you will Engage, Learn and Thrive.
