What is English? Ohio State Lima English Department Page
The Department of English offers a varied and comprehensive curriculum consisting of courses in literature, rhetoric, composition, folklore, language study, film, critical theory, and creative writing. Analysis of literature and language helps develop a capacity for logical thought, an awareness of the complexity of value judgments, and an understanding of the imaginative possibilities of the mind itself. Students can complete all four years of the Ohio State bachelor's degree in English, with a concentration in literature, with courses offered on the Lima campus. Students at our campus have the additional option of choosing to minor in English or in creative writing.
In exposing students to some of the greatest minds and imaginations our civilization has produced, the study of literature engages and deepens all our faculties--mental, emotional, moral, and aesthetic.
