New York-based artist Rick Krieger will be on hand to open his show,The World According to Me!! Rick Krieger Paintings on Paper 1970/80s, in the Farmer Family Gallery in Reed Hall at The Ohio State University at Lima from 4:30-6:30 p.m., Thur., March 5, 2015.

Since graduating from the School of Visual Arts in New York City with a BFA in 1975, Krieger has built a career around creating a fascinating cast of human figures and objects with what his profile on Artslant Worldwide describes as distinctive shapes, forms and colors.

Krieger was a constant presence and played a large role in The East Village scene of New York City in the 1980s. That scene also introduced such luminaries as Keith Haring, Kenny Scharf and Jean Michael Basquiat. Krieger’s work is deceptively twisted, playful and well crafted. Most of the works exhibited in The World According to Me!! come from his East Village days.

“From the first day I started classes at art school 44 years ago I knew that I would be spending the rest of my life working at my art. I realized that creating art was not like any other job. Being a Artist was going to require a great amount of time, patience and dedication to the creative life where there is sometimes very little outside support,” Krieger said in his artist statement for The World According to Me!! “The effort has been well worth it. I have created a body of work including paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs, videos and writings spanning four decades. I have been fortunate to be able to exhibit my work in galleries and museums here and abroad.”

Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m., weekdays March 6-13 and March 23-April 10, 2015. The opening and the show are free and open to the public.
