The Ohio State University at Lima celebrates the United States’ 250th anniversary with a Scarlet Session focusing on the motivations of the framers at the Constitutional Convention.
Dr. Jason Opal, dean and director at Ohio State Mansfield, will present “What the Founders Agreed Upon in the World of 1787,” at 10 a.m., Tuesday, October 27, 2026, in the Martha W. Farmer Theatre for the Performing Arts in Reed Hall.
Dr. Opal is a historian of early America and of infectious diseases who has taught at Colby College in Maine and at McGill University in Canada, where he served as chair of the Department of History and Classical Studies and as associate dean of graduate studies. He is the author/editor of three books and more than a dozen articles on the early United States and of more than sixty editorials on subjects ranging from constitutional law to measles.
The talk with Dr. Opal is part of Ohio State Lima’s Scarlet Sessions, a series of fun, informative events throughout the year to share the expertise and creativity of our faculty in engaging, accessible ways — both on campus and in the community. The Scarlet Session is free and open to the public.
