Dr. Nyama McCarthy-Brown, artist laureate at The Ohio State University, will bring her new production Dancing Stories: Comings, Goings, and Finding Home, to the Martha W. Farmer Theatre for the Performing Arts at 6 p.m., Thursday, March 7, 2024, in Reed Hall. The performance is free and open to the public.
Dancing Stories features a collection of dancers that uplift the themes of identity, inclusion, and expanding ideas around who gets to dance. The Lima show will feature a collaborative performance with Ohio State dancers and dancers from Liberty Elementary School, which is part of the Lima City School system. In addition, McCarthy-Brown will present two works with her cast of eight Ohio State dance majors and share a short dance film featuring BalletMet dancer Victoria Watford. Pieces by graduate students in The Ohio State University Department of Dance, Lucy Dillon and Kierra Williams, will also be shared in this performance.
In addition to the Lima visit, McCarthy-Brown will take Dancing Stories to Ohio State Mansfield, Miami University and the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati.
