Education:
Ph.D. in Chemistry. University of Edinburgh, Scotland, U.K.
B.Sc. (Hons. 1st Class) in Chemistry. University of Edinburgh, Scotland, U. K.

Teaching:

A native of Scotland, Dr. Hamilton joined the faculty at Lima in 1998 where he is now an Associate Professor. He was previously a lecturer in the Chemistry Department at Ohio State in Columbus. Dr. Hamilton has also taught courses at Ohio Wesleyan University and Otterbein College.

He is presently responsible for teaching the General Chemistry series and Chemistry for Engineers at the Lima Campus. These courses are designed for students pursuing Science majors.

Research and Special Interests:

Dr Hamilton is an Inorganic and Organometallic chemist by training. He obtained his Ph.D. under the guidance of Professor Alan J. Welch at the University of Edinburgh. During that period, he became interested in the chemistry of boron clusters, carboranes, and metallacarboranes and their relationship to organometallic molecules. He also developed an interest in the chemistry of sulfur-substituted boranes, a topic that he continues to study today.

Recent publications have focused on unusual weak interactions within boron clusters and between boron hydrides and more electron-rich species. Ongoing projects are also looking at mechanisms of formation of halogenated boron anions and methods of preparation of new, sulfur-bearing agents for Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) of deep-seated tumors.

Education:
Ph.D. in Chemistry. Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana
M.S. in Chemistry. Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas
B.Sc. (Triple major in Chemistry, Microbiology, and Zoology). Osmania University, Hyderabad, India

Teaching:

Dr. Mohan joined the chemistry faculty at the Lima campus in 2013. As a native of India, Dr. Mohan obtained her doctorate degree from Purdue University in 2010. After a brief hiatus, she started teaching Organic Chemistry at Ohio State Lima.

She is mainly responsible for teaching Organic Chemistry 2510 and 2520 lecture courses and Organic Chemistry 2540 and 2550 lab courses. She also teaches Biochemistry 4511 and some sections of CHEM 1110 lab.

Research and Special Interests:

Dr. Mohan is an Organometallic Chemist by training and has worked with Prof. Ei-ichi Negishi (2010 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry) at Purdue University for doctoral studies. During this time, she worked in developing methodologies using Negishi coupling to synthesize stereospecific alkenes.

Her interests include medicinal chemistry and synthesis of bioactive molecules, natural products and small molecular drugs.
