- If you encounter a situation that is not immediately life-threatening, but of sufficient concern that it warrants rapid intervention (within 24-48 hours), please do one of two things: 1) make personal telephone contact with at least one member of the Consultation and Assessment Team; or 2) document the circumstances and email them to at least one member of the Consultation and Assessment Team (see below for guidance on how to document your concerns):

Document the incident
In every case, document your concerns. Record only factual information, actions that occurred, actual statements that were made, or specific behaviors / observations you make. Do not include conjecture, assumptions about what the person was thinking, feeling, or believes to be true unless these were verified or specifically stated. The CAT group will maintain confidentiality on the part of the person reporting, and those addressing the situation to the extent this is possible.
CAT
CAT is an informal consultation team that reports to the Dean and Director of the Lima Campus. Permanent members include the Associate Dean, Director of Student Services, Director of Counseling and Consultation Service, Manager of Diversity and Inclusion, Ohio State Police designee and Disability Services Coordinator. CAT utilizes additional resources, recommendations, and personnel from other Ohio State University campuses as needed.
Consultation meetings are held at the request of Ohio State faculty, staff, and/or students who are concerned about the behavior of a student that is potentially dangerous to themselves or others, distressed, or are extremely disruptive. Meetings consist of the core members and faculty, staff, and/or students impacted by the behavior. The Ohio State Lima CAT team was developed solely for student related issues. Charge
- Assesses situations involving students who pose a potential risk of harm to self, to others, or to property in the university community, or whose conduct substantially disrupts university activities.
- Shares and distributes information with CAT members, university governance, legal representation, and law enforcement.
- Consults with faculty, staff, and students involved in or affected by the student's behavior.
- Coordinates the university's response to violent, threatening, or significantly disruptive students.
- Makes recommendations to the Dean and Director on an appropriate course of action with regard to a student who poses a potential risk of harm consistent with university rules and policies.
Outcomes
The team will develop and recommend a coordinated plan of action to manage the situation that accounts for community safety, individual student rights, and the preservation of the campus learning, living, and working environment. CAT considerations include assessment of the potential for violence, strategies to contain disruption, resource availability and referral for the perceived core problem, accommodation that may be required by law, and setting appropriate behavioral boundaries within existing policies and procedures.
If appropriate and as deemed necessary, the team may recommend enactment of one of the following Faculty Rules:

- 3335-23-21 Administrative Disenrollment
- 3335-9-08 Enrollment Denial for Medical Reasons
- 3335-23-01 Code of Student Conduct (Charges and hearing on prohibited conduct)
- 3335-8-33 Disenrollment from a Course
