Don't Try This at Home brings artist Gregg Williard to Farmer Family Gallery
Public is invited to gallery opening with the artist May 17
Wisconsin artist Gregg Williard will be at Ohio State Lima to open his show Don't Try This at Home: Fool Stunts and Abstractions from 4:30-6:30 p.m., Thur., May 17, 2018, in the Farmer Family Gallery in Reed Hall.
Much of Williard’s current visual work uses a graphic lexicon whittled from comics and cartoons, painting and movies in juxtaposition to his texts and stories to find new relationships between drawings and words.
Williard attended the Columbus College of Art and Design and the New York Studio school as a painting and drawing major. He graduated from the State University of New York with a triple major in art, literature and developmental psychology. His paintings and drawings have been widely exhibited in New York, Chicago, Milwaukee and Madison, Wisconsin, where he presently lives. His fiction, essays, poetry and graphic art have been published in numerous print and online publications.
Parallel to his art practice he has worked as a registered art therapist on inpatient psychiatric units, and, for the past 27 years, as an instructor of English as a second language. Presently he is the director of refugee services at the non-profit Literacy Network in Madison. Since 1995 he has been the producer and host of the spoken-word radio show, “Fiction Jones” on WORT community radio. His novel with graphics, The People in Tubes Motif, is forthcoming in 2019.
Don’t Try This at Home runs May 18-July 12, 2018. Both the opening and the show are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are noon-4 p.m., Monday-Thursday, with the exception of May 28 and July 4, when the gallery will be closed.
