National Civics Bee Competition

About this event

The National Civics Bee for sixth, seventh and eighth graders comes to campus from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, 2025, in Galvin Hall. Dean Meggie Young will join guest speakers Lima Mayor Sharetta Smith and Allen County Commissioner Beth Seibert to welcome the 20 competitors. 

The competition encourages young people to engage in civics and contribute to their community. Organized in partnership with The Civic Trust of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, the competition inspires middle schoolers to become better informed about America democracy, to engage respectfully and constructively in the community, and to build greater trust in others and institutions.

WBL Scholastic Bowl Tournament

Ohio State Lima’s WBL Scholastic Bowl Tournament returns to campus for round-robin competition from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Friday, May 2, 2025. High school teams from around the Western Buckeye League Conference will go head-to-head in an exciting scholastic bowl tournament. Varsity and junior varsity teams are expected from Bath, Celina, Defiance, Elida, Kenton, Ottawa-Glandorf, Shawnee, St. Marys Memorial, Van Wert and Wapakoneta. More than 100 students are scheduled to compete.
Competition rounds will be held in Galvin Hall. Lunch will be in both the Perry Webb Student Life Building and the G. Gilbert Cloyd Student Commons on Galvin’s lower level.
The award ceremony is scheduled to start in the Martha W. Farmer Theatre for the Performing Arts in Reed Hall between 2:00-2:15 p.m., depending on when the last round finishes.
